Ahoy, Pirate Trivia!

Pirates in stories and films are frequently shown with a colorful parrot perched on their shoulder. These parrots supposedly called out funny or offensive phrases, adding to the chaotic and unruly life aboard a pirate ship. 

Based on J.M. Barrie's 1904 play, the 1953 Disney animated film "Peter Pan" follows the adventures of "the boy who wouldn't grow up" and his archenemy Captain Hook.

Named after the 17th-century Welsh privateer Sir Henry Morgan and manufactured in the Caribbean, Captain Morgan is a brand of flavored rums.

In pirate lore, "walking the plank" is often depicted as a form of execution where the victim is forced to walk blindfolded off a wooden board extending from a ship, typically plunging into the sea to meet his fate. The concept was popularized by 19th and 20th-century fiction, leading to its being ingrained in our image of pirate adventures.

In pirate slang, "booty" refers to treasure, often plundered or stolen from ships and settlements. Famous pirate encounters in history usually revolved around securing booty such as gold coins, jewels, and valuable goods — a very different meaning when compared to other modern interpretations of the word!
