Legendary NFL Quarterbacks

In a game that signaled the end of the Cowboys' dominance of the NFC, the 49ers won the 1981 Championship Game 28-27, on a fingertips catch by Dwight Clark at the back of the end zone with fifty-one seconds left.

The play, considered one of the greatest in NFL history, was started by 49ers quarterback Joe Montana, who had three defenders bearing down on him and his intended receiver out of position.

Ranking seventh on the list of all-time point scorers, George Blanda played quarterback for the Chicago Bears, Houston Oilers, and Oakland Raiders. However, he also played kicker, which is how he scored almost all of his 2,002 career points.

FUN FACT

Only two non-kickers have scored over 1,000 points during their respective NFL careers: Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith.

Despite the number of times he's thrown the ball, Tom Brady is nowhere near the career record for interceptions. Brady, in fact, has one of the lowest interception rates (less than 2% of his passes) in NFL history.

Even before the 1983 draft, Elway indicated that he would not play for the Baltimore Colts, who had the number one pick. He even went so far as to say that he would rather play baseball (Elway was also drafted by the New York Yankees) than play for Colts owner Robert Irsay or coach Frank Kush.

The Colts drafted Elway anyway then traded him to the Denver Broncos a week later.

While Joe Montana, Troy Aikman and Bob Griese all won back-to-back Super Bowls, none of them was named MVP for both games. In fact, Griese wasn't the MVP of either Super Bowl he won.

Terry Bradshaw led the Pittsburgh Steelers to victory in both Super Bowl IX and X, and again in Super Bowl XIII and XIV; he was named MVP for the latter two.
