Legends of Film: Patrick Swayze

"Dirty Dancing" (1987) put Patrick Swayze on the map as a leading man in his role of a dance teacher at a resort in the Catskills in the 1950s.

In the classic 1992 surf-crime film "Point Break", Keanu Reeves stars opposite Patrick Swayze. Reeves plays Johnny Utah, an FBI agent who goes undercover to infiltrate a group of thrill-seeking bank robbers led by Swayze's character, Bodhi.

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, the film established Reeves as a versatile action star, while Swayze’s enigmatic Bodhi became one of his most memorable roles.

In "Road House" (1989), Patrick Swayze works at a rough and tumble bar called the Double Deuce where he specializes in kicking butt and ripping people's throats out, literally.

Jennifer Grey played Frances "Baby" Houseman, a young woman who falls for dance instructor Johnny Castle, played by Patrick Swayze.

Grey almost didn't get the role; she had to screen-test with multiple actors before being paired with Swayze, with whom she had previously worked on the film "Red Dawn" (1984).
