Legends of Rock: Pink Floyd

Today, all of these Pink Floyd songs are staples of classic rock radio. However, at the time of their initial release, only "Money" reached the Top 20, peaking at No. 13 in 1973.

Considered one of the strangest and darkest entries in Pink Floyd's catalog, 1977's "Animals" has just five tracks, each featuring either dog, sheep, or pig in the title.

 "Seabirds" is a Roger Waters instrumental track that was unreleased until 2016, when it was included on "The Early Years 1965-1972" compilation.

These theories have been posited by superfans with too much time (and perhaps some recreational pharmaceuticals) on their hands, but both albums have been said to sync up perfectly with 1939's "The Wizard of Oz."

In an effort to put the rumors to rest, drummer Nick Mason joked that the band had intended to soundtrack "The Sound of Music" (1965).

Like many Pink Floyd tracks of the 1970s, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is about founding member Syd Barrett. The full composition comprises nine parts (parts I-V open the album, with parts VI-IX closing it). It totals twenty-six minutes in length, though the "single edit" is just 3:53.

Containing the single "One of These Days" and the epic "Echoes" (all of Side 2), 1971's "Meddle" is considered a transition album between the Syd Barrett-influenced material of the 1960s and the thematic unity created by Roger Waters on later releases.
