"The Green Mile" was originally published in serial form, with six separate volumes released monthly from March to August 1996. The book brought Stephen King his fourth Bram Stoker Award, presented by the Horror Writers Association. And like "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994) five years earlier, the film version of "The Green Mile" (1999) was written and directed by Frank Darabont.

 During his stint in Shawshank State Prison, Andy hung three posters in his cell to hide his escape tunnel: Rita Hayworth in "Gilda" (1946), Marilyn Monroe in "The Seven-Year Itch" (1955) and Racquel Welch in "One Million Years B.C." (1966).

He did NOT have a poster of Lana Turner.

When he signed on to make "12 Monkeys" (1995), Brad Pitt was still an up-and-coming actor and was available for a reasonable salary. By the time the film was released, however, the success of "Interview with the Vampire" (1994), "Legends of the Fall" (1994), and "Se7en"  (1995) had made him a star. 

 Lucas "Luke" Jackson is arrested for cutting the heads off  parking meters, an act of vandalism, and is sent to a Florida prison camp in "Cool Hand Luke" (1967).

FUN FACT

Wally Floody, technical advisor for "The Great Escape" (1963), was the mining tunnel engineer who designed and built the actual Tom, Dick, and Harry tunnels during World War II.
