This humorous moniker was coined in 1976 by former NFL receiver Paul Salata as part of Irrelevant Week festivities in Newport Beach, California. Despite the underdog title, several Mr. Irrelevants have managed to carve out successful careers in the NFL, proving their significance on the big stage.
