Songs with Animal Titles

Doo-wop band The Tokens added English lyrics to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", which was originally based on the South African Zulu song "Mbube". The Tokens' classic single reached number one on the Billboard pop chart in 1961. 

FUN FACT

"Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor became an iconic hit after being used as the theme song for 1982's "Rocky III". The song was specifically written for the film following a request from Sylvester Stallone, who couldn't get the rights to use Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust".

Elton John's 1972 song "Crocodile Rock" became his first United States No. 1 single in February 1973. The song was a pre-release single from his forthcoming 1973 album "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player".

Recorded in 1973 and released in 1974, the song "Free Bird" became an iconic southern rock anthem for the Florida band Lynyrd Skynyrd. The group's 1976 live album "One More from the Road" includes an eleven-minute version of the song.

Released as a single in 1980 by Bob Marley and the Wailers, the reggae song "Three Little Birds" is often mistakenly thought to be titled "Don't Worry About a Thing" or "Every Little Thing is Gonna Be Alright", because of the repeated use of these phrases in the lyrics.
