World Cup Countries

The 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament is jointly hosted by 3 countries across 16 cities: 11 in the United States, 3 in Mexico, and 2 in Canada. The tournament is the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted by 3 nations and the first to include 48 teams, an expansion from the previous 32-team format.  MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey will host the final match on July 19.

Greenland is not one of the host countries.

The nickname "The Three Lions" for England's national football team derives from the emblem featuring three lions on a shield. This motif dates back to the 12th century, originating from the royal arms of England, established by King Richard the Lionheart. 

As of the start of the FIFA World Cup 2026, Brazil holds the record for the most FIFA World Cup wins, with five titles won in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002. 

Germany has won four times; Argentina has won three times; and France has won twice.

Italy, one of the powerhouses of international soccer, has had an unexpected dip in performance by failing to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and subsequently missing out on the 2018, 2022, and 2026 tournaments.
