World Currency

The term "Greenbacks" was first used during the American Civil War to describe paper currency issued by the Federal Government, which was green on one side. "Bucks" is a colloquial term dating back to the 18th century, referring initially to buckskins, which were traded like money. Both terms are commonly used in the United States to refer to U.S. dollars.

While Quebec is a unique part of Canada with a strong francophone identity, Canadian Dollars are the official currency all across the country, including Quebec. 

Introduced in 1871, the yen, symbolized by '¥', is the official currency of Japan and is widely recognized due to Japan's significant global trade relationships. The name "yen", which means "circle" or "round object" in Japanese, references the rounded shape of coins. 

The slang term "quid" is commonly used in the U.K. to refer to one pound sterling. The origin of the term is not definitively known, but it might be derived from the Latin phrase "quid pro quo", meaning "something for something".

The South African Rand, represented by the symbol "R", is the official currency of South Africa. Introduced in 1961, the Rand replaced the South African pound and was named after the Witwatersrand, the ridge upon which Johannesburg is built, known for its rich gold deposits.
